Apple’s iPhone X was the best selling smartphone of Q1

While Apple is gearing up for the next iPhone which will most likely be unveiled in a few months, the company is having a terrific run with its latest iPhone, the iPhone X.

Reportedly, the iPhone X was the best selling smartphone in the world during the first quarter of 2018, despite the launch of the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S9 during the period. Apple had shipped 16 million units of the iPhone X during the first three months of 2018, and 12.5 million and 8.5 million for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus respectively. CEO Tim Cook even stated that the iPhone X was the best selling Apple device within the company every week during the first quarter of 2018, despite the launch of the HomePod.

The company also said that the iPhone sales rose 2.9 percent year over year in the second quarter.

Many people coined the iPhone X as a flop, claiming that Apple is reducing the production quantity due to a lack of demand. However, it is apparent that none of that is true. The current sales figure stands at 50 million iPhone X units shipped worldwide since its launch in November of 2017.

The iPhone X marked the first significant re-design to the highly acclaimed iPhone. It got rid of the home button to increase its screen to body ratio, and introduced the “notch.” Rumors are suggesting that this year Apple will launch three models of the iPhone, at a significantly lower price point to attract a broader user base. Apple is expected to show off the new phones in September, but right it is preparing for WWDC in June.
