Samsung Galaxy S9 new official details

Samsung has now officially unveiled the next generation of the Galaxy smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S9.

Announced earlier today, the Galaxy S9 boasts more power over its predecessor and has gotten many improvements to its camera.

You can manually adjust the aperture of the camera to either f1.5 or f2.4 depending on the light you are in, one of the firsts on a smartphone. The UI has been changed so that switching between different camera modes is as easy as swiping the bar on the top. The regular S9 features one lens, while the S9 Plus has two lenses for better depth effect photos and wide photos. There’s a 12MP rear sensor with optical image stabilization. It will also let you record videos at 240FPS at 1080P, or even 960FPS at 720P. The front facing camera is 8MP.

The camera is now also used a way to let you make your emojis. The software will scan your face and then allow you to customize your avatar to your liking. You can then make faces and poses and send those pictures as emojis through your texts. This seems somewhat in line with what Apple has done with Animojis while offering more customizability to the user.

One of the complaints of the S8 was its placement of the fingerprint scanner and how many people smudged the camera lens when using the scanner. Samsung has listened to all the complains and decided to move the scanner this to the bottom of the camera for easier access and to make sure the camera lens does not get scratches.

The Bixby button is still part of the S9. However, it has also gotten a UI change for a cleaner and better look. Functionality wise it is still unknown whether or not there have been any improvements.

S9 still has the Infinity Design display. The phone has a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440X2960. It has a ratio of 18.5:9 with slimmer bezels than the S8, giving the S9 a smaller design body.

The device has Snapdragon 845, and depending on the model, there are different amount of RAMs. The regular S9 has 4GB of RAM, while the S9 Plus has 6GB. It comes with a 64GB of built-in storage.

Facial recognition has also gotten improvements in its sensors and recognition software.

Wireless charging is a standard, as well as a headphone jack. Fast charging through USB-C also makes a return, and so does the removable micro-SD card slot. The device also has front facing stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos support.

The battery life has been improved between the two models, with the regular S9 having 3,000mh and the S9 plus having 3,500mh, largest of any Samsung smartphones right now.

Galaxy S9 is also water and dust resistant, with an IP68 rating.

The release date for the device is March 16th, and preorders go live on March 2nd. The available colors in the US are Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple. The regular model costs $719.99 while the Plus size model costs $839.99
